Hey thanks a lot for talking to me about all this. Let me know and I can walk you through all of this. And lastly if you are getting wonky effects from your diesel exhausts or don't like the amount or style of smoke there is a program called DPU v3.0 that can fix all of this. On Elvas Tower a user has developed a new consist editor that will work without MSTS so let me know if you need that also. The graphics don't compare but some of the newer rolling stock and routes are quite awesome. Once you get it all up and running I think you will find Open Rails surpasses TS20xx in terms of railroading and physics. (I picked up the CP SD90MAC to go with the Mactier route.) If you need any help getting things going let me know. Also check out Diesels West They have a ton of stuff too and I would say their newer products are an even higher quality than TrainSimulations. The rolling stock and routes have more modern models, textures and sounds than most of the MLT stuff. They are a Canadian company and offer alot of CN and CP rolling stock. I would check out that site I have a lot of their products.
#MSTS ROUTE UP MANUAL#
The route itself is made by another developer but they teamed up to offer a rolling stock and activity pack to go along with that route (the reason why they offer it for download) After setting up the MSTS file tree format according to the OpenRails manual I got it to work.
#MSTS ROUTE UP FOR FREE#
I just downloaded OpenRails to my new pc here and then hopped over to and downloaded a Canadian route they offer for free the CP Mactier Sub. Let me say that I would paypal $5 to the person who gets this working for me. I really was looking forward to the GTA route because it has my home town in it and because I rode it so much as a kid with my dad. So if you can help me, I'd be really appreciative. But no - this hasn't worked for me - I get 'error - missing track node'. The forums I consulted all said to delete some 'world' files and that it would then work. It seems to be a known issue, something about signals in the 'world' database.
There is an issue with the Greater Toronto Area route though. I was able to get the Niagara Corridor route to open and be playable with Open Rails. It's not bad - it's no Railworks, but it's really good for something completely free. In trying to solve all this, I got introduced to Open Rails - the open source train sim that can hook up to MSTS routes and such. If you encountered something similar or have a suggestion I'd be grateful. Does MSTS - v.1.5 even work on Win 10? I have tried solving this running in compatibility mode for XP and Win 7. It loads the intro with company logos and then the status bar filling up and then it does some graphical switch, like almost a windowed mode and says "error must close".
So, to be quick and honest, I had bought the original MSTS decades ago when it came out and liked it but the disks have long been gone. I spent half a day wondering why I couldn't get them to show up on my Railworks profile of routes I own and locos I own - turns out that this DLC was for the original Microsoft Train Simulator. So I have these two new routes and a bunch of nice GO Trains and VIA rail and CN consists. but no, it meant Microsoft Train Simulator)
#MSTS ROUTE UP SIMULATOR#
(I thought Train Simulator meant Railworks. They have a Greater Toronto Area route and a Niagara Corridor route - both of which I purchased.
I found this 3rd party developer called Maple Leaf Tracks. Still, the desire for something close to home comes up. I love my UK Trains and have been really taking a liking to my German (and other European) routes and trains.
While I love Railworks Train Simulator, they don't have much in terms of Canadian content.
